WIP Wednesday: 'Tis the Season

I think that Araignee and I were on the same wave length as we kicked off December ...

I finished my non pareil socks (I'm working on getting you a photo of them weaved in) and immediately cast on these happy kickers. Seriously, the color way is called "Cheer" in Felici, by Knitpicks.

Can we discuss this colorway for a second? Part of me is surprised at the pink instead of the white with the red. It's ... pepperminty, but feels a little bit polluted, like they meant to do white, but they messed up. I like it, but straight white and red would've been nice too.

Now can we talk about this self striping yarn that KnitPicks seems to have discontinued? They brought back a few colorways for a hot second. I'm guessing someone in the warehouse discovered they had some "extras" laying around, but I'm sad there isn't a proper offering of this fun stripey yarn. It's no secret I have a problem with self striping yarn :)

I have other things on the needles, but nothing that is really making me as happy or as excited as these, so we'll focus here today.

Tell me, do you have anything festive on the needles? Or is there just something that is making you happy for whatever knit reason that you don't want to put down?

  1. After 7 "festive" hats I am festived out! And I still have one more elf hat to make!!!! So I cast on a shoulder, cowly, thingy, something. In green. But at least it's olive drab instead of Christmas Green!

  2. I have a pair of socks on the needles that are festive only in that they are a gift. However, they are traveling around with me in a bag where the fabric shows all of the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer characters. Therefore, it's a festive project!

Love the socks, they look very Christmasy!

  3. I love self-striping yarn because it looks great knit with a simple pattern - no fussing.

  4. Fun Stripes seem to be the order of the day this Christmas season. Love these socks! Interesting point about the pinkish white rather than white.

  6. To me, that peppermint colorway is done washed where the separation of color is not harshly definite. I like it. I'm happy to be knitting away on baby hats. My right thumb and wrist think otherwise.

  7. I like the peppermint socks, but I agree with you. White would have been better.

Knitting socks ---- gee, are you surprised? One pair for me in a wild color combo and a sedate grey pair for the Mister.

  8. Ohhh I like that colorway and I agree with you about the pollution of the pink. Like was it originally white and did some of the read leak and make it pink. Yes. I love self-striping yarns and I'd say 90% of my fingering is self-striping. I too have a problem with the stripes.

I wasn't organized enough this year to make holiday items with nice holiday colors. Next year perhaps. Right now I'm finishing up projects from this year that need blocking, buttons, sleeves set in...

Your comment on my blog cracked me up. Yes. I did haul on making my Son's sweater. I would say that is the only adult sweater that I've made in less than a month. Now the two scarves weren't made during November. Those were done a few months ago but I just got around to blocking them.

  9. these really ARE quite festive!!!!! I do like them a lot, and pepperminty describes them beautifully. I'm rescuing a tossed aside project and getting ready to really love it again.....as soon as those darn sleeves are finished on the LAST holiday knit. WOOOWHOOO!

  12. That is an interesting colorway. My Jingle is a little ho hum to. I'm seriously thinking of getting some Bare and dying my own Christmas colors for next year.
I broke down and bought some of the new Felici they offered up last week. I'm mad at them too but as soon as I saw it I had to have it. I just checked the site and now it's all gone except for two colors. :(

  14. Your socks remind me of peppermint ice cream. I like stripey yarn too as they do the work with having ends to sew in.... I agreed to knit some Christmas stockings, and they are taking forever!
