Friday Finishes: Twinleaf

It is official. The shawl is done.



I am pretty sure I miscounted somewhere along the way during my wrap and turn adventures (this is for the contrast color stripes) and well ... I kept going. Afterall it's 340 stitches wide. That's a lot of tinking. I think it turned out okay considering all the late night knitting this entailed.



I started it in June because it called for light fingering ... (*please someone tell me is this code word for lace weight or am I hallucinating?) and that seemed easier to knit in the warmer months. I picked it back up in the fall, since it seemed like a practical, functional piece, light but warm wearing. Also, it was a lap cozy, while knitting. heh.


This project got me thinking one day, I'd like just to use the dimensions and do another large stripe or colorblock wrap in the same weight yarn. I just don't think I'll do it anytime soon ;) I need a few small projects of instant gratification.

*Really is this lace or fingering what is this light fingering, it's not really sock weight either,  you know?

    I think it is amazing! And that is a LOT of knitting in that weight yearn. I swear I try to stay away from light yarns as they take forever to knit with! It was worth all of your time and effort, it is a beauty.

    Wow I love that! I do think light fingering is the same as lace but what do I know?

    I'd love to do that in a heavier weight (because yeah lace weight).

    Lovely!!! I made this one, too, but haven't worn it much.....must dig it out. I'm with you----it sure seemed like lace while knitting it!!!!! :) Congrats on the FO.

    Light fingering really should be a weight all on it's own. In my experience it's exactly in the middle between lace weight (try working with a true lace weight and you'll see the difference) and fingering (sock weight). I like it for shawls, but not for socks because you have to use really tiny needles (2mm) to get decent socks out of it. But I like it better than lace weight because it's just a touch heavier and I don't feel like I'm knitting with sewing thread.

    Beautiful! I love the size as shown in that last picture. Light fingering feels like lace to me, too. I don't often knit with it because the projects usually take a long time to finish.

    This is certainly an accomplishment. It looks lovely and cozy. I still treat light fingering like sock yarn even though it does feel lighter. Lace? I shudder.
