Things I made

I didn't have time to take a photo of the hat itself after I finished it but look! It's a finished knit in action. It seems to be worn in joy and that's what matters.

I am currently in the middle of working on this baby blanket kit I picked up at Imagiknit:

I'm finishing up the first color and hope to get a bit into the second of four in the next week or so. It's slow going, but it's stockinette so you know, it doesn't require a lot of brain power.

As most of you know the kitchen has been going as usual. We had one of our family friend's son's stay with us for a few days last week and this was one of the items that got me a lot of praise, which as we all know is what I live for.

Mini chocolate chip donuts from Joy the Baker.

I'm a lazy beast and I was trying to make it to a studio class. so it was just powdered sugar toss instead of her lovely crumb coating. Go with it. Make it yours. Grab the compliments. I would definitely recommend this for a brunch or a knit club meeting :)

I just want to say hi to everyone and their good hearts. I'm sorry I haven't been around as much but  I'll see you soon maybe with a little picture of the beautiful pink I'm slowly working into a baby blanket.

Best and bestest to you and yours.

Ellen

    1. I leave the fried donut as the outside world treat.
There was some concern about me buying another specialty baking pan, but I was doing so well with them I had to buy another to expedite production :)

    1. Thanks CJ. I love knits in action too. I am always staring women down when I'm pretty sure they are wearing a handknit. Just happened at the ballet. I was pretty sure the yarn was madelinetosh too. hehe.

    1. Yes, I very much agree with you Mere. I think that certain things are naturally more reflective (writing for example) and with a lot going on, sometimes one must dig much deeper to get to a place that feels honest and comfortable. And sometimes, not bother with the dig and come back to it later ;) I get it. It's ok. You do you.

  5. You've been on my mind this last week - wondering what tasty treats you've been baking!

A gradient baby blanket? How fun would that be to knit. Would love to see it in progress. Happy knitting.

    1. I seem to spend the week, thinking about what I want to experimental bake or cook. Sometimes it doesn't work out, but it's a nice slice of the weekend to look forward to. I'm happy you like it when I share what I've been up to with you.

  6. Your hat is amazing. The joy of the wearer is evident!
Baby blanket. That is really fun and getting ready for any baby is joy.
Glad to see you post. Wish my life could have donuts in it, but nope. I am maintaining my weight loss but it requires constant planning and awareness of what I am eating.

    1. Kathy maintaining weight loss is amazing in itself. It's so hard to be disciplined with things that bring life a little extra, but these good habits are going to bring your life a LOT of extra. I think the planning sounds like something I might benefit from and enjoy a little more if I drill down to my personal level and not just the family's!

Yeah, I can't make those donuts TOO often ;)

  8. Man, you put your kitchen to good use. I'm glad you have workhorse appliances. Who was that with your hat on? He doesn't look like your son.

    1. You know, I have a smallish kitchen in an apartment right? Like it's so cluttered people might call hoarders if they saw the full shot. Anyways, My big appliance which fits on a shelf is my Kitchen Aid that my mom got for me at least 15 years ago. I do have a lot of kitchenware and it drives my husband nuts but it brings me joy ... and food. hehe.

He's more like a little brother than a son. Though he responds better to my suggestions than I think either a brother or son would hehe.

    1. haha, well you are always making me crave hat knitting so we are even. Honestly it sounds weird, but there are very few things I bake that I want more than a bite of. It's dangerous when I do. It always comes back to chocolate cake. I always crave chocolate cake when I want to eat something baked. Oh and this banana cream pie thing I buy every 6 mos or so from this fancy bakery in the hipster part of town.

  12. Great action shot of the hat - and how happy the recipient is!! Nice. Now...for the donuts...would you please send some right now? Seriously, they look wonderful. Are they baked? Not fried? I need to look into this immediately.

    1. Vera you are so kind. I would love to share my donuts with all of you that would want some. But yes! they are baked and not fried! There a bunch of different recipes on the internet that are very manageable. Some use yogurt, some use melted butter some are more like cake. It's fun to explore if you have the time and the flour, heh!
