Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween you crazy kids!

I hope you are enjoying some treats, whether it's the sugar or the fiber, a party or a moment to yourself. I am supporting good natured frivolity today. (well not only today, but moderation nurtures appreciation)

No, I am not cliche girl for Halloween, but seems like I should be, huh?

I am writing in to let you all know that I finished knitting and weaving-in my Fall Knit Along Nutkins. I woke up and soaked them at 6 am this morning. They are currently blocking because hello, it's 10/31!

I should be able to show my work tomorrow. :)

Something happened this weekend. I feel determined to go into the dark days of winter with a productive mentality. I'm keeping up with the activity -- not as much as last week but I'm getting my cardio in. Also, thanks to the good influence of Bridget I have been slowly nipping away at corners of clutter. The Kid and I went through 2 of his drawers/bins of clothes when I cornered him, We only culled a little bit, but that bit was something to make some space. We went through a shelf in the hutch that had old art projects and old broken crayons and markers etc. We still have a lot, but there is space again. I just need to think, this is okay, I'm going in the right direction.

Wishing you some breathing (and surface) space.

  2. I do love a bit of a declutter, it's so satisfying isn't it. There's always more to do, but a little at a time is a good thing. I'm determined to have a productive autumn/winter as well. May lots of good energy abound. CJ xx

    1. That is the perfect word, CJ, satisfying. It is! I brought in glitter and fabric markers barely used for a friend with a younger child. So I know some of the things that didn't have to be thrown away will get another use. :) Write like the wind, my friend!

  3. There's nothing like a good clean out! I love to go through a closet/drawer/pile and throw out most of it!

    1. I am realizing there is more that I have to keep than I'd like, which leads to being better organized with what I do have. But first, make space. I love when the piles go away.

  4. I finished one of my KAL socks, and just started the other one. I'm only making the second one so I'll have a pair, since the pattern and I are not friends. :-)

Even a little decluttering is a move in the right direction, as far as I'm concerned.

    1. I know that feeling, just finish the 2nd sock to have the pair. It will make the next thing you decide to knit so much more enjoyable. ha!

Yes, I am trying to be cool about it and not set myself up for failure, but I think I've identified the next 2 spots for declutter this weekend :) I'm salivating thinking about it.

  5. Yay for the KAL finish! Can't wait to see how they turned out. I'm in a bit of a declutter state myself. As a result I have soar muscles today. LOL

    1. I love hearing how other people are decluttering too. It makes me feel part of a team!

  6. Kudos on finishing your socks for the KAL.

Congratulations on starting the decluttering habit. I've started keeping a bin/sack for donating to a thrift shop, and I've gotten better at just trashing some items. Decluttering is an on-going project at my house, but sometimes it seems like I am making very little progress.

    1. Thanks Nancy, that is how I am definitely approaching it, a new healthy habit -- the way I used to parent more consciously when H was little, training. I am hoping that him seeing me chip away he will recognize that being with less clutter and more space and organization is the way we SHOULD be, and trying to be. I'm hoping he will see how much easier it is to be cleaner when there is less stuff.

  7. I want to see those Nutkins on your feet! I was scared away by that pattern after reading the comments on Rav so your finish is a huge accomplishment! Yay, you!!!

    1. I completely ignored the comments which is interesting for me. I think I'm a little blind with socks. ha! -- going to go look up some comments now!

    1. Thanks Kathy, the KAL was so much fun and I will be encouraging you through the dark days for sure. I already have decided to put a little reminder in my calendar at work to go outside and walk the block just for a little light on my face, even if it's overcast. Even if it is super cold here, the crispy air will perk me up. I thought about it this morning. I burned some cheese in my pan this morning and it was all smokey so i opened the door to the back stairs and just smelled the fresh? city air and felt a little connected again. Dorky, but whatever, it worked for me.

  10. Yay on decluttering. The teen had cleaned out her room over a week before her friends had come over for birthday dessert. What a difference! MY gosh. I had to take a picture afterwards, LOL. Can't wait to see your FO in its glory. I'm so behind in blocking and photo shoots.
So you were talking about vegetables in your comment on my last post. Do you make a pot of them for the week? What's your recipe. And what's tofu pouch? Like the Japanese Inari?

    1. See? I think that's great that she prepped knowing she was going to entertain. My teen doesn't seem to struggle with throwing things away either. I'm so grateful for that. I guess it's just being a Mom and getting him to do it. Our household is so easily distracted ... squirrel!

And yes! Inari! we slice it in strips and throw it in. Fun texture and it absorbs all the flavor. Our recipe is pretty much the same as the box. Modified here and there just for what feels natural. We've been known to do a slow cooker version for post cold late soccer practices :) I think one of my favorite versions if I use meat is to take the asian spareribs sear them before sauteeing in the onions and all the other veggies. yum!

  11. Nice work on the Nutkin finish; I'm still slogging away on sock #2. Did you make any changes to the pattern? Good job on the decluttering; we have dispatched a total of 2 whole things...

    1. I eliminated the shotrow heel simply because I hadn't done one before and didn't have the time for learning something new. But I don't believe I changed anything else. Getting rid of 2 whole things ... fabulous. Anything is good.

  12. Why is decluttering so hard? I'm trying to do at least two hours every weekend. It's going to take a lot of weekends!

  13. Even a little bit of decluttering helps. I need to get back at it. Happy late Halloween.
