I don't really know about the title of the post. It's all I got right now.
Kinda lame post title, I know, I apologize but brain work funny sometimes or doesn't work sometimes ...
Anyways, there are those "things" that are happening. Not a theme of something specific, but -- things.
So let's start w/baking.
I have been trying to do something different or new to me or a rerun of something I wasn't pleased with lately. I aim for twice a week, but it really becomes once, because I still need my regular (people need to eat it) bake as well.
This week I tried blackberry cake using puree from Serious Eats. This was not my best work. Despite reading through the recipe a few times, I still managed to do things out of order and this was not good for the cake. The blackberry flavor did not come through and it was not as airy as I would've liked, a little dense. Fruit is always tricky. Also, I do not use my immersion blender very often so I was a little wild with it initially and my kitchen looked a bit like a gory science fiction blood scene. (Did you see The Thing? Are you familiar with alien blood, not to be confused with "Alien" blood that is actually flesh eating acid? HA!)
Regardless of my self induced mess, because I'm a sucker for punishment, and I like Stella Parks (aka BraveTart) I think I will try it again.
I finally cast on for a baby sweater and it's really cute.
I'm hoping to finish this one up within the week. That may seem like a long time to you for something that basically just needs some edging and small person sleeves, but this is my reality.
In an ideal world I'd cast on a pair of socks after because hello, socks! and I miss socks and I want to knit socks all the time, but I have a few other "to dos" that I think if I knit first, will help me enjoy a year of continuous sock knitting without concern for anyone else. Also guys, little not so secret, if you have too many pairs of socks, you can give them away really easily. People LOVE hand knit socks.
Selfish Sock Knitting -- it's ALL the rage.
Tell me are you knitting for yourself or others? What is your favorite thing to knit? Is it a constant favorite or do you like to trade it around?
The sweater is adorable! I'm knitting for myself. The only person who appreciates knitting is my husband, and he only appreciates socks (with an occasional hat thrown in).
ReplyDeleteThank you! It took me a long time to figure out who really appreciates the hand knit.
DeleteI lurves your baby sweater WIP; reminded me of the Coffee Bean cardigan you've made a few times. My 6th grader loves the unicorn sprinkles you used! Where did you get them? Mahalo.
ReplyDeleteThanks Stef, if it is the Coffee Bean cardigan again. It's familiar, it's cute, and something known will go faster! I got the sprinkles in Germany. I think they are Dr. Oetker brand. They always have cute novelty stuff. You can find at the regular grocery store or the Tedi which is the equivalent of a dollar store.
DeleteI'm knitting socks - for moi!! On the horizon: more socks - some for others and more for me. I'm selfish like that.
ReplyDeleteI like your style Vera. xoxo
DeleteI've been on a sweater kick lately! Your baby sweater is so sweet! Nice job!
ReplyDeleteI think that the Fall (or the desire for Fall) definitely inspires sweater knitting! Even after this baby one, I have 3 more in mind. in my CRAZY mind. oh and socks ;)
DeleteWhat a sweet sweater. I ❤️ stripes on babies. I've been knitting for others this summer and haven't accomplished much - all are still on the needles. Sigh! I guess moving and unpacking will do that to knitting mojo.
ReplyDeleteI love stripes on babies too. My poor son looked like he was either a sailor or breaking out of jail much of his small years. If I saw a pair of stripey long john pajamas at the Old Navy, they were going home with me! hehe.
DeleteYou've been super busy and still knitting and still quilting. I say you know the mojo will come back when there is time. hehe.
Such a cute baby sweater.
ReplyDeleteWell, as you know, I mostly knit socks, but I'm mixing it up this fall with hats, shawls and mittens too. I know! WHO AM I????
Seriously, WHO ARE YOU?!?
DeleteAs long as you're a happy knitter I like who you are. xoxo
Oh, that cake! I saw the picture of the sprinkles on Twitter and wondered what they were. Now I know! Love the sweater. I have a big thing for stripes and baby stripes are the best.
ReplyDeleteI was kind of heart broken that the cake didn't turn out the way I wanted, but the sprinkles made me feel better :)
DeleteI like baby stripes too. I like stripes. hehe.
Cute sweater!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Valerie!
DeleteI am turning to socks too!!!! In just a few moments!
ReplyDeleteYay, socks!
Deletelove the stripey knitting!! I'm chugging along as well trying to get used to my fall babysitting schedule with a 2 year old :)
ReplyDeleteOhhh your immersion blender story is one of my reoccurring nightmares come true. That’s why they are banned from my kitchen. Bad enough that my husband has a mega juicer that tends to go haywire and turns my kitchen orange on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet little sweater! You know that I gift-knit vicariously through you since my knitting is totally about me me me! Selfish sock knitting is my jam although it’s coming back to bite me since the guys are eyeing all of my handknit socks wistfully. I might breakdown and knit them one pair to share.
That is a very cute baby sweater! Bravo to you for trying an un-mix cake! I've been doing a combo of knitting for others as well as a shawl for me. The latter gave me all sorts of grief, but the stuff for others is done now and soon to be headed to their new owners: booties for a friend's great grand daughter, and a sparkly purple sweater for my GD who only told me 2 days before her b'day that's what she wanted. I plan to hand deliver both very soon!
ReplyDeleteValuable information. Lucky me I discovered your web site by chance, and I am surprised why this coincidence did not took place in advance! I bookmarked it.
