Back and Forth Knitting: Sock Progress

Finding time to knit has continued to be challenging. So there is not as much progress as I'd like to show you.

I continue my back and forth knitting with socks.

I ripped out the dk socks on US1s and swapped them for US2s. I kept a 56 Cast on. It's not perfect, it's not gauge, but it'll do, and it knits up much faster. In this picture I've knit approximately 50 rows including the ribbing and I might just turn the heel here.

Thehe first Little Pumpkin sock is done. I cut the foot length a little shorter to fit me but I worry it may be too short, but perhaps with a little blocking things will work out ... otherwise HM gets another pair of socks :) (yes I cut the yarn and have ripped back on this stupid sock at least 3x!)

I love the instructions at the end of this pattern.

I will need to cast on for the second sock by this weekend, or I worry it will be some bizarre standalone October decoration.

I have been seriously struggling with sock knitting this fall. I thought for sure they would bring me great joy this season, alas, I just feel kinda pouty about it.

Don't worry, I'm sure it will all work out eventually. Besides there are many other things to knit up until the sock mojo returns properly :)

What are you knitting?

  1. Such pretty socks! I get that mojo losing thing completely. When I get pouty with a project I make myself do one row a day until I get the feeling back. Somehow only one row a day adds up quickly and before I know it I'm in a place that lets me finish painlessly.
Right now I have so many projects going I can't even think of them all but I'm in a good place. Some are just coming along and some are on their way out.

  2. I can understand the loss of mojo. You get all excited starting the sock and happily work on it and then you realize you've still got one more to do. It's been a whole since I've knitted socks. Every time I think of doing so, I'm tempted to buy another pair of needle but get cheap about it.

  3. Your Little Pumpkins looks great. Sometimes knitting has to take a back seat to other responsibilities, but I'm sure the second one will get done. :-)

  4. I almost always have trouble doing the second sock! Now I'm doing Christmas stockings...but there are 3. Go figure. Love those pumpkin socks; I get the impression that they're challenging, so pat yourself on the back for finishing the first one! Nice colors on the other pair, too.

  5. Love that instruction to start immediately on the second one, it should be writ large on all sock patterns I think. Wishing you a speedy return of your happy sock mojo. CJ xx

  6. Ah, foot length! I always agonize about that, especially for gift socks. All you can do it make your best guess. For women, I usually do 8 inches before starting the toe.

  7. when i get sort of stuck with socks....i move on to mittens.....sort of the same problem them----you must knit 2 of them, but at least they are just the tiniest bit smaller than socks. (I have a whole lot of orphan mitts, too)

  9. Sounds like you're just in a bit of a sock knitting slump - happens to us all. Your mojo will return

Right now I'm working on a new design, a DK cardi, boot socks and a pair of toddler mitts!

  10. My last sock attempt was MEH.....I abandoned it post heel turn. Just was not feeling that LOVE.
I love sock yarn in many forms: hats, cowls, mittens...so that's good

  11. I am right there with you on the sock knitting. In the past I would crank them out because it was a project I could get satisfaction with pretty quickly. This year not so much. The past 2 socks I have knitted have had issues and I haven't finished either pair. So I moved on to a sweater. LOL
