Ten on Tuesday: 10 Books That Made ME Want to Drop Everything and Read

I was visiting KimKnits and saw her list and thought I'd join her and Carole and throw my hat in the ring for Ten on Tuesday.

In no particular order. I can't explain why I like all of these books, but I remember that "can't stop now feeling" and I admit there are more, but these are the ones that are jumping out at me right now.

1. Harry Potter: I'm getting on KimKnit's bandwagon for this one. Yeah, all of them. Instead of "Calgon take me away" it's definitely J.K. Rowling take me away. Sad, mad, bored, sleepless in San Francisco, or anywhere else in the world this series is like a warm hug and safe world to whisk away to. I'll say that #5 The Order of the Phoenix is my favorite (since Kim listed hers)

2. Dune

3. Pride and Prejudice

4. The Rickshaw

5. Mistborn

6. Moon and Sixpence

7. The Count of Monte Cristo

8. The Book Thief

9. The Wolves of Willoughby Chase

10. La Dame aux Camélias

I have more books that I kept reading that didn't make this list. Some I kept reading just to see what would happen. Some because I just wanted it to be done which doesn't necessarily mean I enjoyed the read. For example I read Gone Girl like a crazy person when I was on vacation, but I'd probably never read it again and if I did, I wouldn't feel compelled to devour it.

What book did you read that you couldn't put down that the experience continues to stick out in your head?  That is what the above book list makes me feel when I start to read them again, hungry. Even if I put it down, I am wistful for the world I'm leaving.

    1. I love the Good Earth and the Little House books! I could read one right now. I think I need to put Great Expectations on the list this year.

  2. I haven't ever read Dune, but I remember when it was all the rage!
The Poisonwood Diaries, Middlemarch, Pride and Prejudice, Hard Times. Unravelling by Elizabeth Graver. I know there are a lot more contemporary ones, but my memory isn't cooperating.

    1. Yes, my memory is not cooperating either, but it's been lovely visiting everyone's books and getting the gentle reminder!

    1. To Kill a Mockingbird, indeed. Last reread the whole family got in on it, so now it's even fonder in my heart.

  4. A great idea for a list. I have Wolves of Willoughby Chase on the pile of books to read to the children, I shall pull it out next on your recommendation. Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy is wonderful. I remember reading the first one, Northern Lights, and every so often I would put it down and say out loud, "This book is SO good, I can't believe it". Must reread it soon. CJ xx

  5. Terrific list! Love Pride and Prejudice (and anything by Jane Austen). Also Jane Eyre, Anne of Green Gables, Heidi, Ivanhoe, The Three Musketeers. Absolutely loved The Count of Monte Cristo too. I must be the only one left on earth who has not read Harry Potter.

  6. Oh yes Jane Eyre! The last time I reread it I was so so taken with it. I like the movie with Michael Fassbender surprisingly! I've never read Heidi or Ivanhoe, hmm ...

  9. Order of the Phoenix is my favorite as well, its also the first one I read and I have a paperback (the movies were already out so I started from there). The Wolves of Willoughby Chase and The Count of Monte Cristo I read as a kid and remember liking them very much. I have an audiobook series - Zombie Fallout that I LOVE - I think if I had read it though it would be good, but the narrator is so fantastic, he really makes the characters POP!

    1. I haven't gone zombie with the reading surprisingly, but I do appreciate a good narrator, it makes such a difference in an audiobook!

  10. Oh boy, at looking at my Goodreads list of books I gave 5 stars, there is too many to name. The Harry Potter series and my old, Julie Garwood historicals I can read over and over again. I think I'm adding the Flavia de Luce series to that as well.

  12. About a month ago I read The Martian almost in one sitting. I could not put it down. I stayed up late reading and picked up the book before I got out of bed the next morning. It was exciting, funny and down and dirty NASA-technical. I like action-packed books so I'm sure I will read it again in the future.

    1. First off, I love the 1970s cover, but I am not familiar with this book. Immigrants and a rags to riches story!
