Wednesday Work In Progress: Baby Blanket Edition

One of my old exercise pals from the original crew went and had herself a baby girl.

I like babies. Especially other people's babies, and let me tell you this kid is something so cute it's unreal. She was born in early December and honestly I had no extra time for baby knitting mojo.

But when I saw the baby blanket kit I immediately thought of that cutie pie and well here we are.

Super skinny yarn on US 3 needles. Send me some good vibes, b/c the yarn is a little splitty. Definitely requiring some bamboo and not metal needles.

I've managed to make some progress since I actually took the last photo. I'm about to start color block 3/4. I'll post another photo when I get through #3.

I was just beginning to day dream of pink socks and steel blue sweaters when my neighbors just announced they are having a baby boy this summer, hehe.

    1. Yes that hot pink is what sold me. My friend is such a girlie girl. Lipstick and make-up in exercise class. We are very different (I sweat like a pig!) with a very similar sense of humor. The pink is bright like her smile!

    1. Thank you CJ! I didn't discover my love of pink until I was an adult, but I'm so grateful I did. It can be happy and bright or soothing and calming.

  3. The best thing about baby blankets is that people really use them. Ihat one is just adorable. That's a lot of stitches though. At least they are usually good TV knitting.

    1. This is SO true Araignee. I feel like this one will be especially useful b/c it's a blend and the drape is dreamy. Perfect for our mild climate here in SF in a stroller. And yes, after dinner I like to knit and watch t.v. and this is brainless.

  5. This is so pretty Ellen, but yikes! Sock yarn on #3 is a lot of stitches. You are more than half-way through though, so carry on! And don't think of the baby boy due to arrive later....

    1. Nancy, I think you're onto something, with "the zen of knitting stockinette" like a knitter's ode or something!

  9. Oh that's so pretty! Perfect tv knitting too. Are you knitting it on circulars because that really is perfect mindless tv knitting. It looks like the perfect weight too for a baby blanket.

    1. I am knitting on circulars in front of the t.v. In front of the t.v. in the living room and just before I fall asleep. Sometimes I can't finish a row, it's like counting sheep if that actually worked for me.

    1. Thank you DH., my goal is just that it gets used a little and the recipient knows my care for their family is genuine. Treasure status ... is shooting for the stars and moon!

  11. I love starting baby blankets but after 2', I start gettin' anxious. My mum has hooked some blankets for all of our kids so I don't have to feel guilty. I like the contrast of the solid pink with the marbled one. You are a dear friend.

    1. I started back into the fiber world as an adult crocheting blankets for the local Adult Protective Services. My friend said, hey do you know how to knit, and I've been lost forever. Much easier on my wrists now.

  12. I love that baby blanket and she is lucky to be receiving one made by YOU! I love to give blankets, sweaters and of course hats. Not all of them together unless I really really love the baby to be :) :)

    1. Yes, I might have to knit a baby sweater for the next kid. I figure I can always blanket for Christmas seeing that they are neighbors if I get a case of the skinny yarn baby blanket crazies, again!

  13. Love the blanket. My latest baby blanket is in the mail onto the boy to be and I found out we are having yet another grand niece or nephew in July. Waiting to find out the sex before I buy the yarn.

    1. See, it takes patience, but it really is such a joy to knit something for a new baby. There is something so lovely about welcoming a new life with something handmade. It really channels how much I care for them to have a good life from the get go.

  14. Very pretty! You are really nice to knit a blanket on tiny needles. Splitty yarn makes me crazy; I just had to restart a pair of socks because the yarn was splitting like crazy even with bamboo needles.

    1. Thanks Judy! I am trying to keep up the good spirits about it all. I have some sock cuffs on needles right now, and I'm not enjoying the knit up. I might have to restart.
