The Wednesday Whatnot: Fall Knits

I wish I could tell you that this post is about my fall knitting. Alas it is not. Here I am slowly stuck in summer knits and I'm surrounded by fall fashion despite the fact it's 80 something degrees here in San Francisco this week! I secretly think I've been working later so I don't have to leave the air conditioning so quickly to the sad service of my screenless windows and baby square fan.

I went downtown to take two pairs of shoes to be resoled and reheeled. And there despite the heat I felt the knitting inspiration.

First off we have the  knit "cropped jacket" by Zara:

Instantly I think, hmm, short sweater with super bulky yarn. I could do this ...

Next up a Fringed Vest from the horribly cute but horribly paycheck sucking Anthropologie store:

The fringe is a little too ... frivolous for my personal style. But I love the idea of a knit vest. Imagine at work when you're going through that, "Am I hot or am I cold feeling?" Sigh. Maybe I need to knit a vest?

There were also various dropped shoulder knit cardigans that looked really cute, but the one thing I've wised up about it that it's not a cut that works well for my body. I'm already sort of ... pumpkin oriented as it is. There is no "drape" for me in that style, just "pumpkin clutching" if you know what I'm saying.

I know it's not "technically" fall yet, but when I woke up on Labor Day in a lazy haze the first thing I thought was, "It's September for reals!  How'd that happen?!?"

Well the daydreams are very lovely. Vests will definitely be ... considered. But right now, I'm sticking with the In Progress agenda. It may be a while till you see any knitting progress here, but I'll be around, diving into the schedule of fall, chasing the stitches of summer.

    I know what you mean by that last sentence! Fall inspiration seems to be everywhere but I'm still trying to get my summer projects off the needles, too. Love the idea of a knitted vest. Must add that to my fall project list.

    Knitting a vest is always fun - the satisfaction of a cardigan, without the hassle of sleeves!

    I've been knitting shawls because they fit my ever-changing body. Cardigans would push me over the edge, I'm afraid. Vests would be easier to knit and definitely easier for me to wear, so perhaps. . .

    I'm envying you your warm days, there's a definite chill here. I love the vest, that would definitely be a nice project. I think I shall knit a cardigan next. Just as soon as I've finished the blanket... CJ xx

    I'll be chasing summer stitches for a while myself. My one and only real fall project is left over from last fall....no, make that two falls ago!
    I wore the heck out of my one and only vest during the last two winters. The best part is they work up pretty fast and have no sleeves to set in. Go for it!

    I have succumbed to the Fall knitting bombardment! I ordered a kit from Webs....
    I have a vest and pattern sitting in a project bag.......not yet started.
    Let's all make a vest this November-would that give us enough time to finish up what's on the needles?!

    It seems I always have more than enough on my needles, no matter the season! Have read though that fringe is really in right now.... That vests don't have sleeves to knit is a real plus; they seem like they would be just right for the SF climate most of the time?

    Love that vest (minus the fringe...got over that in the 60's - lol). The cropped sweater looks fun, but definitely not a style for my body. I'm still knitting sox...trying to get the hang of it.

    I do so love fall. It is my season and winter. Cold rocks as I'm a SF girl born and bred. I don't mind warm weather of mid 70's to mid 80's but these freakin' 90+ days are killin' us. My poor babies roasting out on the yard.
    And oh yes, dreaming of the new cast on is always fun.

    Lion Brand has some cute, free vest patterns and one of them looks very much like the pictured vest.

    I think it should be a law that the weather turns cool after Labor Day! Are you listening Mother Nature? We had rain in Texas for the last two days but today we are back to 100+ degrees. 80 sounds good to me--I'm headed to San Francisco!

    No apologies needed. The weather dictates my knitting plans...and today we had a soaking rain and now a cool sunny evening. I'll be knitting my shawl.
    I LOVE the bulky/biggy cropped jacket. its a winner. Keep it on your list!
    You could knit a wide pocket scarf that would be similar to the vest without all the yardage....
    Hope the back to school season is going smoothly...

    In my mind it is fall, I'm wearing jeans and dreaming of the day I can put on a cowl. Drop shoulder was in in my younger days!!

    I have very square shoulders so you would think I would learn that a drop shoulder sweater would not be the best for me, yet I still make them! Really what is wrong with me. That vest is cute. My belly sticks out to much for anything cropped, not that I am showing it or anything. Hugs,

    And, September is flying by WAY too quickly.

    I think that vest is pretty neat. I think I would leave the fringe off, but I love the chunky, texture of it.

    Hmmm...now you have me thinking that maybe I need to knit a vest. I really like the bottom one sans fringe, too.
    I should take a page from your book and finish up my wips. But knowing me, I won't. ;)
