Weekend Recap: More obsessive cookie baking

There are worse things I could do, then bake another dozen of cookies ... or two ...

I swore up and down I would not spend my weekend in the kitchen. Then I swore I would not spend the Sunday in the kitchen. I vowed I would knit like a woman on fire.

This is why people like me should not go around making any kind of declaration, duh. I'm just a big walking, talking, baking contradiction.

It rained all weekend and honestly it was nice to have a cozy kitchen.

First up were M&M cookies for the soccer team. They had their first spring match in the rain, just like every match I've ever watched of the English Premier League on t.v. hehe. We started off the season with a win! Cookies for all my friends!

Next up were the Nutella stuffed snickerdoodles. I gotta tell you, I was like, "what?" with the things INSIDE the cookie. But people really enjoyed these. The Nutella was a pleasant surprise. I didn't put too much in there, just because.

I meant to get a shot of them while they were still warm, but I was in the throes of everything kitchen. One of The Kids pals came over after homework to play video games and attempted to demonstrate for the cameras ...

sorry that's the best I can do, but I will do these again, and then I will be sure to capture the warm cookie moment for you.

Also on the weekend menu was this Caldo Verde which I am still enjoying immensely.  I like that it uses Cauliflower instead of potato. I admit it is a little more labor intensive than some other versions, but it's not overwhelming. My ratios were off and I could've emulsified the cauliflower longer, but tasty nonetheless.

I rushed Saturday night's dinner of Arctic Char and grease burned my hand which has sort of hampered my knitting moves, but I'm on the path of righteousness again, no worries. (Though my hand is ugly and a little sore. Ugh.)

Now back to our regular schedule of work and trying to shove some knitting somewheres in there.

ps: This whole daylight savings thing is really HARD for me. Please send fake sympathy or at least a hall pass for a nap, maybe an extra alarm clock?

  1. i had sort of a kitchen moment kind of weekend, too....making a dessert for a friend's birthday and silly me decided to make an angelfood cake---while it's raining. Whipping egg whites in that kind of humidity....the mixer ran for nearly 30 minutes before those babies started to finally stiffen up. (ended up pretty good in spite of the rain).....and then, along came daylight savings time (which I wish we would just stay with instead of switching). I'm dragging. :(

  2. Mmmmm.....cookies. So sorry about the hands. Burns really hurt. You can have any pass you want for the time change. I've always hated it myself. It makes me crazy.

  5. Cookies are always welcome at my house, which is exactly why I don't dare bake any: I have NO will power.

DST should be outlawed in all states.

I hope your burns heal quickly.

  6. Oh My goodness. COOKIES are my downfall. I cannot have them around. When I bake them now for the sake of baking for the men here, I put coconut in them and then I am completely uninterested in them.

THe time change is tough for folks who work. I get it. Kiddos have a tough time too. Why is it that when we are on vacation and there is a time difference, it is sooooo cool. Working the night of the change was ahuge complication. Giving potent IV medications at a different hour can halt a babies progress. Trying to determine how to stagger things in an NICU when we change the clocks was always a challenge. Couple that with the fact that the clocks all said the wrong time and it is a wonder they survived!

  7. Like a few others, I cannot resist cookies. Those Nutella cookies would be irresistible. I try not to back cookies now that there aren't any children living here!
I always hate springing foward. I swear it takes at least a week to recover.

  8. Ouchie! Sorry about the burn. I know how much that hurts. Your cookie factory kitchen is terrific. I drool every time you flash sweets. This stupid Daylight Savings is annoying. Why couldn't we start it Friday night? I don't get why we're made to stumble through zombie land.

  9. I got two containers of fund raising cookie dough. Finally the girls have cracked open the one and made cookies. The other is a tub, so doubtful they will oblige and make those. Oh well, when I get a peanut butter cookie craving I have a back up!

  12. Those cookies look mighty tasty! But I'm glad they're at your house as they'd be way too tempting. Sorry about your hand; heal quickly, your knitting awaits!

  13. Yummm M&M cookies! One of my favorites. After reading all of your recent baking posts, I feel the need to expand my baking skillz. Sadly, I have one cookie recipe (white chocolate macadamia nut) in my repertoire. Hope that your hand is feeling better!
