Kathy's Monday Q&A

I started reading Kathy's post and thought, I'm gonna post this one. Then I started reading the comments and started randomly commenting on other people's comments. Maybe too much mint chocolate in me, ha!

Here we go kids:

*Have you asked your kids to do something you wouldn’t do?
I have one kid, but I'm seeing the appeal of having multiple children to make multiple entertaining requests. I don't really think I ask him to do much outside of my own comfort zone except for try not to be nervous about something when I personally have to do a lot to manage my anxiety. I think he's getting wise to my shtick though.
*Do you understand: Football, Bridge, or Cricket?
I understand American and "World" Football aka Soccer. I don't really like American Football anymore, but before anyone out here yells at me, I get why you might. So don't come for my head. A good friend of mine is mad about Cricket and is constantly threatening to rope me in. I told her she will have to wait for my retirement. In the meantime though I do like to check out the Guardian ticker during international matches. I love the NON sport commentary. I think this is what the British would appropriately describe as "brilliant".
*Have you talked to your family about Organ Donation?
Yes. I am a registered organ donor. I know the husband knows. I haven't discussed it with the Kid. I assume he would know that's what I'm ok with.
*Did you knit something that you thought you might not be able to this year?
I think anything I completed this year. The Fall Knit Along socks have been a big win. It was looking bleak earlier in the year.
*I-phone or Samsung?
I-phone but I'm sick of Apple's proprietary dominance and I'm not opposed to moving away from it, but I'm still under the impression that the security for the OS and apps is more secure.
*Do you put bows or trinkets on your packages?
I'm team Araignee on this. I loathe wrapping presents. It's never crisp, my ends are always a bit ... wonky. The irony is I love wrapping paper. What? It's pretty! It's like fabric for non sewers! I haven't ribboned in a LONG time, but I like those sticker bows. You know, premade, peel the paper back and BOOM, insta jazzy package.
*Do your pets get a Holiday treat?
I have no pets, but we are known to give gifts to either neighbor pets and/or my Dad's dog, Simba because he's a funny fellow who loves to battle a squeaker.
*Do you use headphones, earbuds or nothing when you watch something on your phone, computer or tablet?
I use Earbuds with my phone. I used to use these free headphones  with my computer at work (Cans as my budding film maker calls them as they go over your ears). I received them when I ordered a pair of sunglasses but those were STOLEN OFF MY DESK and yes, I'm still bitter about it in case you can't tell. TWO rules people.
  1. Don't lay hands on someone.
  2. Don't take other people's stuff. Holy hotpants what happened to common sense kids?

*If you could take a craft/knit/crochet class in January for free, what would it be?
Fair Isle, maybe learn to use a sewing machine? but really, I'd leave some oranges out for the crafting gods if they'd just give me a little more time to knit and organize.
*Have you ever made a traveling knit? (you knit part and send it on?)
No I think I'd be interested in this when I retire if I learn to manage my time better. In general it makes me nervous, this feels like I'd let people down. I can't handle that, ha!
More words and pictures soon. Knit strong my friends. I'm cheering us all on through the end of this year and many more, grateful for the best in all of us.

  1. #2 -----------sheesh yes! What has gotten into people's heads. Common courtesy is a thing of the past and FAR from common.

Hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday season!

    1. I am really an old man disguised in this body shaking my fist at the world, yet I remain hopeful. I know I interact with a lot of good/kind and respectful people in this world.

  2. You are so funny!!! Ellen now I want to check out the Guardian ticker for snicks. But stealing is so not funny! So sorry that happened to you.
Fair isle is so worth it. When I go into a fair isle trance it is really something. I only do fair isle with a one item knit. If i get it right once its a miracle, so I dont try to do socks or pairs of any kind when I fair isle. Merry Everything!

    1. Thanks Kathy, I think you are pretty funny too :) Fair Isle remains on my todo list your endorsement definitely seals it's position. I'm not sure how I would want to incorporate it, not socks though.

  3. You know...wrapping paper is only pretty before you unwrap it. After that it's it or me. I just can't manage a wild roll of unleashed paper. Ribbon either. I just can't tame it.

    1. LOL my room looks like wrapping paper war zone right now. My husband wraps well, but he saves all the little shrapnel pieces, because "they might be useful later". ARGH

  4. A lovely post. I watched lots of cricket last summer, but I still don't really know what's going on. Sitting in a deckchair, in the sun, on a Sunday afternoon in summer and asking me to learn about sport is a bit of a stretch. To be honest, a lot of the time I can't even recognise my own children once they've got a helmet and pads on. The thing with cricket is though, it doesn't really seem to matter. A smattering of light applause every so often is all that is required. That I can do. Provided I'm still awake... CJ xx

    1. I think you described perfectly what I'm drawn to Cricket for. There is this very calm vibe, even in the tension, and tea and cake. I saw some ladies having champagne cocktails and I'm not opposed to that either.

  5. Far Isle knitting intrigues me, as I haven't done much of it. Perhaps, in 2018 . . . American football is beyond my comprehension or interest. I can't understand why someone would play a game that could potentially cause brain damage from all the concussions. Of course, money plays a HUGE role in the game.

    1. I'm with you Nancy, I feel like there is so much that is unhealthy in the NFL right now, so much that is contradictory. I struggle with dangerous sports. Even those exciting Xsports. They can leave someone so damaged but I guess the athletes know what they are signing up for. I just feel for the ones that are using football as a way out for themselves and their families. It feels a bit exploitative.

  6. It's so ghetto how ppl's things are stolen at work, even lunches? For real? We moved up to Costco wrapping paper as we were sick of the easy tears Target paper can get. I don't do ribbon nor bows. Just slap a sticker tag on the box and there you go.

    1. Seriously girl, what is with people taking other people's stuff. I wouldn't want to eat someone else's food that they didn't offer me. That's just so rude. My sister said she remembers being hungry as a kid and it's the biggest insult in her mind to take food from someone w/o asking.

  7. Don't get me started on things going missing at work... I'm the only one left with scissors because I have an awsome hiding spot for them.

    1. YES! Hiding, and locking things up. I put a big old label on my favorite stapler. That is from a movie, but trust me, it was born from truth. LOL

  8. I taught my kids a life motto from early on-'if it's not yours, don't touch it'. Someone in your office needed that lesson! I hope 2018 brings more knitting time to you!

    1. Your kids were raised right. I worry that people were taught but have learned the horrible addendum, "but it's okay when I do it."

I think 2018 will bring me more knitting time. I feel like after the holidays, I will find my groove again :)
