There are so many times in life we anticipate completion to only discover error close to the finish line.
That would be the first body piece of my Common Ground cardigan. All I needed to do was bind off. With less than 20 stitches to go, I had to face the sad sad truth that the giant cake of Ecological Wool was gone, and would not be enough yarn for an intact bind-off.
So I backed it out to the beginning and was going to join just before the bind off. I can't bring myself to back out another row. I mean it's not an exorbitant amount of stitches, but still ... I'm a lazy beast. I'm really sad that this section is not done. Also, I'm worried if the join will be secure enough at this point. So I will put the Jane Richmond double knot method of joining yarn to the test.
I'm at about 6.5 inches into the leg part of my Mr. Dress-up Sock. I measured my husband's favorite sock leg and it's about 7.5. This feels ... long to me, but what do I know? I am knitting the Men's version. Do you think I should start the heel or what?
I have not touched my Great Divide in a long time, but my goal is to finish it by end of day Monday.
In the midst of these on going Works in Progress, I want to cast on something new. But what will it be? TBD my friends.
How are your works in progress coming? Do you still have the zeal, or are they feeling stale, and you're casting on the new?
I'm impressed, you have so much on the go. I'm making a scarf with some sparkly yarn I have, but I've started it three times so far. So hard to get the right pattern, the right width, the right needle size. I think I'm almost there though, probably won't have to start it more than once more...
ReplyDeleteMy linen stitch scarf is a huge disaster, I am not happy and it is sitting on my size 7 circulars waiting to be discarded, ah such is the life of a knitter.

I would have done it for you if I was there, I have no problem undoing a few rows especially when they aren't mine. Looks lovely!!!
ReplyDeleteJane's method is my go-to so I hope it worked out for you. I'm knitting on socks and a cardigan today ~ we're having another snow storm so I'm staying in!
ReplyDeleteKnit the 7.5 inches. Men cross their legs a lot and trouser legs reveal the leg more than men like.
ReplyDeleteArrrgh! I hate when I run out of yarn like that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nancy, longer is better when it comes to socks.
I'm not feeling the love for my current sock project. The yarn is horrible. But, I'm on the second sock and I WILL finish before starting a different one. (yes....I will, I will, I will --------- well, maybe.)
Men's socks are huge. That's because men's feet are huge, as are their ankles and legs. I've only made a few pairs of men's socks and vowed never to do it again...(both of my men--dad and hubby--wear size 12 shoes...my hair dresser who really appreciates hand-crafted items wears an 11...).
ReplyDeleteI have tons of things on the go, but that's me. What I'm mostly focused on is my Possibly Maybe socks which I made it to the heel last night! My dragonfly cowl wants to be finished, but my brain feels tired and doesn't know if it can handle even one round of colorwork. I hope that one hasn't stalled indefinitely.
Very pretty sock! It saddens me to run out of yarn like that. I would have a hard time picking that back up myself. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteIm not feeling shawl love after all….I found two beautiful shawls in al's closet that never get warn. Im rip rip ripping the colorful shawl out today. It needs to be something for a baby. it WANTS to be something for a baby.
ReplyDeletewhat does a baby want?
looks to me like it's just a bit too early to start that heel.....???? it's looking really really good!!
ReplyDeleteThe wool should hold up. I use her method all the time unless the yarn is too fragile/thin. If you block the sock it may lengthen more? Does his sock go past his calf? Handknit ones usually won't unless it's a knee high pattern.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had any knitting mojo in the last few days. I'm hoping some spring weather will cure me.
