There were:
baseball games.
Friends and sliders and lots of kitchen prepping for a BBQ where children played in the backyard and parents laughed.
Aside from the weekend recap. I have list for you.
I have discovered Instagram. I joined mainly to follow The Kid but I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I use some of the photos here there etc. But I like that it isn't as high maintenance as say, Facebook, for me (is that to me?)
My family has decided I am the world's worst mango selector ever.
Not just the ones that live in my apartment, but the ones that grew up with me too. I can literally see my little sister shaking her head.
I impulsed bought $6 worth of vegetarian jelly beans this morning when I went into shop for dinner on my way to work. No, I'm not exploring vegetarianism (I was picking up salmon at my son's special request) but they were pretty and they were there. They are pretty good except for one flavor that I cannot put my finger on. I avoid them. The texture is grainy, but for whatever reason, I actually like that.

Mangoes are so hard to choose! I always get them a little "off" one way or the other. Then there's the coring them--I never get it right. I keep trying because they are great for juicing.
ReplyDeleteI also love Worcestershire so much I buy it in the BIG bottles and refill the standard spritzer bottle. It goes so fast.
Great food ideas Ellen!!
Hmmm, maybe we need to try mangoes and Worcestershire ? hehe. I like mangoes with lime and chili!
DeleteThose jelly beans look yummy. I'm a Dot girl myself. I just worked my way through all the Halloween stash and today I had to pick up some more. I'm pretty sure they will be gone before Halloween, too. Tsk, tsk...
ReplyDeleteI have been eating candy corn. I have been eating little bits and bobs of toffee. ugh. No wonder that random visit with the scale depressed me, ha! I literally said, "no, that can't be right!" but no way do my house keys weigh THAT much!
DeleteMangoes are an interesting fruit. I usually select by color and if the skin gives a bit. If you can share a tip on how to get rid of the pit with ease, PLEASE share it with me. I end up with a mess every time!
ReplyDeleteLove the playhouse in your backyard - every kid's dream.
You know, there are a few methods I "watch" my mango family do. I will see if I can document their methods. I have a few friends at work that prefer the mangoes from the phillipines, they look like a yellow liver or kidney to me, some kind of internal organ. Is that gross? Anyways they are less fibrous, but I like these ones best.
DeleteTruthfully, we do not have a backyard, our lovely friends hosted while they are remodeling their entire downstairs! We cooked! It was really nice. The kids do love the roof of that playhouse!
I'll have to try your dipping sauce ~ it sounds yummy!
ReplyDeleteI hope you do! Dipping sauce is a happy evil :)
DeleteSounds like a good weekend except for the illness, I do hope all is well now. I've made cashew nuts soaked in shoyu and then cooked in a little sunflower oil. Then I ate far too many of them. They are not lasting long at all! Have a good week Ellen. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteAll is well. Either bad junk food at the baseball game or ... junk food at the baseball game. Those cashews in shoyu and sunflower oil sound SO good! I will try it!
ReplyDeleteYour dip sounds yummy!
ReplyDeleteThe kids on the roof is so fun! so safe!
New Yummy: Apples from my sister in Minnesota. In the oven for apple crisp...again.
Im on the lookout for sourdoughstarter
It is definitely apple season, sounds delish.I have never done a sourdough, you better post about it!
DeleteI love instagram :) it's a rabbit hole and quite entertaining. Sorry for the soccer loss and hope everyone is feeling much better now!
ReplyDeletei've been pretty glued to the ball games myself (via tv....you were there??!!??) and feeling withdrawal coming on as the season winds down. :(
ReplyDeleteWe were there for the last night game of regular season. It was a loss, but that's okay. Always a treat to get out to a game.
DeleteYes, I will have some serious withdrawals at the end of this post season. ugh. You'll have to start watching soccer (English Premier) with me :)
Sorry there was illness and a loss, but other than that it sounded like a fun and yummy weekend. Mine was sort of slow, just what I needed.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
Just catching up with blogs after being gone and see that you are keeping busy! Hope you have a good weekend. Glad to hear that CA got some much needed rain! (And love that Antarktis shawl; thanks for showing it!)
ReplyDeleteYay, on Giants games! Are you watching tonight's? Brutal - bottom of the 14th!! What were you making with the cabbage and carrots? Slaw for sliders?
ReplyDeleteI'm trying baked hamburgers in a 9x13" pan. It will hopefully beat stove top grilling.
