Just a little more sweetness

Despite the governor declaring a drought and water rationing, and one of the driest mildest winters I can remember, we are getting my all time favorite citrus. The Kishu (not to be confused with the oysters I like, Kusshis.)

The season is already ridiculously short.

And now I heard one of the major orchards has lost half it's crop to frost. They are not the sweetest I've ever had, but I am so grateful they are here. Tasty vitamin C times, yay!

Here are a few more photos to give you a sense of how tiny they are.

What's your favorite citrus?

  1. You are lucky to have fresh citrus. Citrus trees are some of my favourites, and I love lemons and limes. The selection of orange things isn't huge here, and I'm never really sure what the difference between satsumas, tangerines, clementines etc is.

  2. I don't know the name of the tangerine I like, but it has very thick skin that peels off in pretty much one big piece. It's also seedless! Win/Win! Steve bought a bag and when it was gone, I couldn't find the same kind. The season must be short for them too.

We have a local orange called a Ponkin that is really good, but you have to know someone that has a tree. They don't pick them commercially, because they do not pack/ship well. I've only ever had two in 30 years of living in Florida. But, they are THAT MEMORABLE! LOL

I also like Honeybells! YUMMY! I love citrus season.

  4. We like Clementines, Mandarins, and Cuties. Don't like the big oranges anymore. I don't believe I've had Kishus before.

  7. huh, for some reason I did not know you were in California---where have I been? I love vegetables over fruits but if I have to eat a fruit I like grapes :)

  9. This is an odd thing about me; I don't really like the texture of fruits and I only eat them room temperature. I LOVE grapefruit juice, orange juice, cranberry juice. I love watermelon. If a orange is just right I'll eat orange slices. WHen I was pregnant with Zachary and nauseous the only thing I'd eat was orange . …YOU asked!
