Thursday Thoughts

Okay let's just get this out of the way. Because the thought is just rolling around in my brain like a crazy train.

I have lost a sock.

Yes, remember that Christmas Sock 2017 that I knit but had gotten stuck in a tangle? Well earlier this week, I hung out with my friend Mrs. B. and her sister, Kate. Kate loosened it up with her magic hands and ... I was off knitting again. I brought the other sock with me for some reason, probably to keep my crap together.

So as I was back on track with the leg of my 2nd sock -- while taking a break from handwarmer knitting I realized I couldn't remember how many rows I knit for the leg. So, I went to dig out sock #1 to count and reconcile. Well I couldn't count.

It is no where to be found.

I asked Mrs. B. if perhaps I left it at her house. Negative.

Sigh.

I am hoping it turns up somewhere, but I am preparing myself I may have to play some yarn chicken and reknit it.

Something exciting happened today. My cousin in Colorado texted me that her youngest son who I knit a hat for when he was just a baby really liked the hat, but it was getting too small and would I consider making another in a larger size.

Duh!!

So guess what I'm working on this weekend?

I pulled a groin muscle over the weekend and have not been able to exercise properly since Sunday.

I'm resting. I'm stretching as much as I can. I'm knitting. (I have some ends to weave in, but I'll have 2 more pairs of hand warmers to share shortly). I baked a Chai Cinnamon Swirl Cake.

It was ok. the bake was not even enough.

I also got rid of 2 boxes of STUFF in my apartment. There is so much more to go through and get rid of but I'm pleased with any amount of unnecessary moving out.

Everyone's blogs have me all excited to knit as much as I can. Following other people's leads I am focusing on knitting from my stash in 2018:
  • Lunar New Year red hand warmers for Mama Chang (my friend's mother who always sends me curry soup!)
  • Pre-Schooler hat for my dear little cousin.
  • TinCan Knits Gramps sweater. I have to finish one of these in the name of Chrisknits because I know she loves this pattern. For some reason, I struggle with it.
  • Flaum for a friend of mine who looks good in everything and is perpetually elegant and modern.
  • Ellen Cardigan
  • A Throw
  • A box of socks!! I want to knit all the socks! It may be a small box since I do not plan to knit them all for myself, but who cares! I love socks, I love boxes, it'll work out!
Wishing you good thoughts.

  1. I'm sorry you're in pain; ouchie! I hope it heals soon. Yes for hat requests! Yay for early spring cleaning; we have stuff to donate and keep forgetting to put out a box when the drive comes through our court. I feel so behind in Box of Sox this year as I'm not even done yet with my Christmas Eve CO. Oh well, that's what happens when I have diverse interests.

    1. Thanks Stef, I am not doing the ACTUAL Box of Sox challenge because it's too "have to" and I won't make it. I'm basically just creating a box of socks. That's it. on my own timeline, if it has 1 pair in it, so be it. We love this crap remember? Also Christmas Eve CO is just a newborn project. You got a lot going on to. Go with the Flow.

  3. Sorry to hear about your pulled muscle and hope it improves daily! Good work getting rid of stuff; I need to do that also. Good luck with your knitting projects! Isn't it great to get a request?

    1. I'm super excited about the request Judy. I do not keep in good touch with this cousin and her family though there is no love lost. My goal this weekend is to get 2 bags out. Trash and donate. I have Monday off so this is doable!

  4. Glad you've got lots of New Year knitting energy. How frustrating about the lost sock, I do hope it turns up. Hope you're all better soon and not in too much pain in the meantime. Have a good weekend Ellen. CJ xx

  5. It's maddening when you know exactly where an object should be, and it simply isn't there. Hopefully, the first sock will reveal itself soon. You have some wonderful knitting projects planned. My box of socks in 2018 will not be for myself: my sock drawer is overstuffed.

I've been working on downsizing, decluttering, and tossing the last two weeks. I've got a lot boxed for donation, but the weather hasn't cooperated to actually allow me to drive to the thrift shop that I love. Hopefully, the boxes will be out of my house soon. Keep up the gentle stretches, and your pulled muscle will start to heal.

    1. It IS maddening! Especially this piece that I was pretty sure I knew where it was. However I am keeping moments like this in the forefront of my mind when I feel overwhelmed or just poopy about the decluttering process.

  7. Ouch! sorry about the pulled muscle. Chai cinnamon swirl coffee cake sounds wonderful! Your line-up of projects is great. I was thinking of doing a box of socks...but I know if I committed that would put me right off knitting socks. I'm loving making fingerless mitts - fast, easy, fun!

    1. I have to admit the sharpness of the initial pain was a bit surprising. I feel like I'm getting better now, so this is good. I thought the Chai Cinnamon Swirl Cake sounded good too, I'm just not super pleased with the outcome. I will keep baking cakes and see if it's worth workshopping it again. I'm going to cast on another pair of mitts this weekend too. So much fun!

  8. Honey, it doesn't sound like you're resting to me!

I have lost lots of single socks. Sometimes its due to washing one by mistake, having it felt, and hoping I have enough for a third. Then there's the sock I left in the Honolulu airport ladies' room in 2014. That one will never return to me.

    1. HA! omg I'm sorry I laughed so hard when I read about the Honolulu airport sock never coming home. Do you think our sock knitting bags are too small or something? I once rediscovered a "Halloween sock" just to realize it was way too small. ?!?

  9. The missing sock thing happened to me once. I thought I'd put both of them in a gift bag to give to a friend. I got to dinner, proudly handed her the bag, she open it up an said "Wow. ONE sock!!!" I was so embarrassed. Happily, she thought it was funny, and luckily the other sock was at home on the floor right below where I was packing things up. Socks dont make much noise when they fall so I must not have heard it when I dropped it.

    1. LOL. "Socks don't make much noise when they fall ..." I felt your embarassment, but good friends have a good sense of humor and it all worked out. Pretty awesome story.

    1. Kathy your magic chant worked! I love that it's another hat they want and not an afghan. LOL.

That cake was not worth your eating Kathy B. I would make you something much better. xoxo

Yes, handknit socks make the world go round!

  11. You are so ambitious! I am just wanting to use up more stash and get a measly sweater knit, at this point I don't even care what pattern it is. Good luck.

  12. I hope that you are feeling better! And hooray that your missing sock was found. Love your knitting goals for the year. Flaum and Ellen (a possible dessert name?) are on my future garments list as well. My goal for this year is to knit at least one sweater since I made none last year.
